Free Movie in Park City

I'd never come across a Woody Allen movie I liked until this past weekend. I read in the paper that they were going to show a free screening of Vicky Cristina Barcelona at the Park City Library. I'm not a fan of Woody Allen, but I am, however, a big fan of Penelope Cruz, so I decided to go and give the movie a try. When we arrived at the library, we quickly found out that the screening wasn't free. Ha! I told the guy sitting behind the makeshift ticket counter they set up that I had read in the paper that the screening was free. As soon as I said that, a crazy looking dude wearing the strangest pair of glasses I've ever seen suddenly appeared out of nowhere and started yelling at me. He got all worked up over the fact that I had been misled by this paper I read. He asked me, all red-faced, "What paper did you read?!" I told him it was the Standard Examiner. After I said that, he got even more worked up and yelled for another minute or two about how much he loathes the Standard Examiner. "They never return my calls!" he kept saying. I guess I had personally offended him by having the gall to read a paper that apparently printed faulty information about Park City movie screenings. I was relieved when Crazy Eye Glasses Guy finally let us pay for our tickets and go into the theatre. Unfortunately, they held this really sad raffle before the start of the movie. Crazy Eye Glasses Guy conducted it, of course. Lex won some chili peppers because of the raffle, so that was cool. When Lex went up to the front to claim his chili peppers, Crazy Eye Glasses Guy yelled out, "Hey look, this guy came all the way from Ogden for some chili peppers!!" This guy's glasses were seriously freaking me out. We all just wanted him to go away so we could watch the movie in peace. With the raffle done with, the movie FINALLY started. I loved it. It was really funny, and Penelope Cruz did a great job. I was surprised I liked it as much as I did given that it was a Woody Allen flick. Plus, the movie has a narrator guiding you throughout, so I really liked that. It was fun.

Snow.Brrrrd.

Yesterday Rob and I went to Snowbird and took the tram up. Once we arrived at top, it came as no surprise to find snowy weather conditions, freezing temperatures, and 100% pure awesomeness. I couldn't feel my fingers after a few minutes up there and didn't stop shivering for a couple hours after coming back down, but the trip was totally worth it. I love going up there.

Celebrities Undressed

One of my guilty pleasures is MSN.com's Celebrities Undressed feature by Kat Giantis. Every week MSN features photos of different celebrities wearing questionable threads. Included alongside each photo is a short satirical commentary. The commentary is always really witty and so hilarious. This one featuring Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes was especially funny to me this morning, so I wanted to share.

Match Point:

All right, that's quite enough, Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes. Here's the thing: While you may very well have the most amazing! magnificent! magical! wonderful! relationship (to borrow a few of your favorite superlatives) in the whole of romantic history, you're doing a lousy job of convincing us. Who told you that a couple in the grips of twoo lurve has to color coordinate? Or that the best way to get matchy-matchy is to divvy up the top and bottom of a double-breasted silver suit? Two people who are really comfortable and happy with each other typically don't need to try so hard to show it (or, in your case, Katie, slouch so hard -- seriously, quit it, 'cause you're risking the emergence of a mighty hump). And Tom, as you've noted time and again, your wife is a strong, confident woman, which means she doesn't need you awkwardly leading her by the hand all the time like she's your doddering aunt from Poughkeepsie out for a night in the big city. Just relax, guys. Take a deep breath. Throw on some clothes from the Gap (and maybe pick up some casualwear for the party dress-pooped Suri while you're at it). Let your arms fall to your sides and allow your digits to intertwine in a natural manner as you walk with your shoulders back. Go on, give it a try. At the very least, you might convince us that you like each other as much as you profess to love each other.

Isaiah

I have a new nephew! His name is Isaiah. He was born a week ago, today, and he's beautiful. I'm so happy for Melinda and Jason and can't wait to meet Isaiah in person next month. Melinda, now you MUST start a blog!

St. Jarj

I went down to St. George this past weekend. Matt ran the marathon down there, so it was fun to go and support him. He trained really hard for the race, and I'm very proud of him. He did great in spite of the horrible weather on the day of the race. It was really cold and rainy all day long, so that made it extra difficult for all the runners. I failed to get a good shot of him crossing the finish line, but here are a few shots I took right after he finished. It's funny, the weather was really nice the day before and the day after the race. We were even able to go swimming on Friday but were shivering in the cold on Saturday.

MATT: "So then I passed by this runner chick who decided to take a bathroom break in front of everybody, just a few feet from the side of the road!"

ISAAC: "Really Dad, right in front of everyone?!"

MATT: "Son, you know this."



So it was a great time down in St. Jarj. Watching Matt finish the marathon has even inspired me to sign up for the 1/2 marathon in Ogden. I think Ogden has its marathon in the Spring. We'll see.
